University of Macau (UM) assumes upon itself the responsibility to serve the local community and plays an active role in Macao’s long-term development. Having positioned itself as a university that is ‘rooted in Macao to help develop the city, integrated with the Greater Bay Area and China to serve the country, and geared towards the world to make a greater contribution’, UM has been strategically promoting and expanding continuously its local, regional and international networks to elevate the competence of its students and scholars to compete in a global challenging world. Currently, the international network of UM covers 250+ academic institutions in over 30 countries/regions.
Taking advantage of the historical relationship between Macao and Portugal, UM has been connecting with Europe and Portuguese-Speaking countries since the beginning. For all these years, this particular advantage supports UM’s global partnerships in terms of academic and research collaborations, knowledge and cultural exchanges. The initiatives of the Chinese and Macao governments, including but not limited to the nation’s Belt-and-Road Initiative and Macao’s One-Centre-One-Platform Strategy, also foster the international development of UM.
Towards the goal of internationalization, in the future, the university will continuously strive to fulfill its global affairs mission and further improve its international profile by leveraging its potentials fully, to become a first-class higher education institution that will be the pride of Macao residents and will be recognized nationally and internationally.
