Visitors from Mainland China need to hold a valid Exit/Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao with a relevant endorsement, and will need to meet the general entry requirements.

Foreigners are required to have a visa nationals of countries which are exempted from a visa or entry permit. For more information on “Visa” and “Entry Permit” Exemption, please visit the website of the Macao Immigration Services of Public Security Police Force.

A Macao visa can be obtained through the Embassies/Consulates of the PRC and should be used within its validity. Visitors may also apply for an entry permit or visa upon arrival at the immigration checkpoint. However, visitors from certain countries are required to obtain a visa in advance before their trip to Macao. If a visa is required, it can be obtained upon arrival in Macao, issued by the Immigration Department for a period of 30 days. There are three types of entry permit (i.e. visa-upon-arrival):

  • Individual – MOP$100
  • Family Passport – MOP$200
  • Children under the age of 12 – MOP$50
  • Group – MOP$50 per person for groups of at least 10 people organized by a single travel manager and presenting a collective travel document.

According to the Law of Macao, all non-local students (except Hong Kong SAR Resident) studying at Macao’s tertiary education institutions have to apply for the “the “Special Authorization to Stay” (Student Visa). The “Special Authorization to Stay” is valid for 1 year and has to be renewed every academic year. 1. Online Application for Macao and Hong Kong citizens ONLY

Effective from 01 September 2010, information on online application for entry permit to Taiwan for Macao and Hong Kong citizens can be obtained from Taiwan Immigration Agency. 2. Application for Chinese nationals

All Chinese nationals currently staying in Macao must apply for entry permit to Taiwan through anthorized travel agencies. An applicant must first obtain the proof of identity (身份證明) from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Macao.

The required documents for proof of identity application are as follow:
a. Proof of work / study in Macao
b. Identification documents, including ID card, passport, transport permit, working permit or student ID card if any.

Having obtained the proof of identity, entry permit to Taiwan can be applied in authorized travel agencies in Taiwan or authorized travel agencies in Macao.

Direct Flight to Macao

Macao International Airport located in Taipa Island with direct or transit flights daily or several times per week to Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Beijing and some major cities in China.

Via Hong Kong to Macao

By Sea:  If you are coming to Macao via Hong Kong International Airport, you may use the “Cross Boundary Passenger Ferry Terminal” which offers ferry service that will depart directly from the HK International Airport to Macao Ferry Terminal without passing through immigration in HK. If you cannot take the direct ferry, you may take a more frequent ferry service at the Hong Kong Shun Tak Ferry Terminal either by Airport Express Trains, taxi or Airport bus (Bus No. A11) from Hong Kong International Airport.

By Helicopter: You can travel to and from Hong Kong, Macao and Shenzhen, by helicopter. Each flight takes approximately 16-20 minutes and this service is provided at the Shun Tak Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong and the Macao Ferry Terminal.

By Bus: You can travel to Macao via Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge which is a 55-kilometre bridge–tunnel system connecting Hong Kong – Macao and Hong Kong – Zhuhai. Hong Kong International Airport also provides shuttle bus service to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port.

Via Zhuhai or nearby cities to Macao

If you are coming from Zhuhai or other regions in mainland China, you must pass through the Customs at the Barrier Gate in Zhuhai, Gongbei or the Cotai Frontier Post in Zhuhai, Hengqin.

Taking a taxi is the easiest way to access UM after your arrival at Macao.

By Bus

You can take buses 71, 72, 73 or N6 (overnight route) to UM campus.
