A delegation composed of management members from Pedagogical University, Mozambique (Portuguese: Universidade Pedagógica) joined an intensive staff training programme organised by GAO from 17 to 24 June 2019. The programme aimed to present and demonstrate UM’s development and practices in the areas of teaching, research and community service.

The one-week programme included visits and meetings in different academic and administrative units where UM staff members shared their experience and practices of management with the group. Prof. Yonghua Song, Rector and Prof. Rui Martins, Vice-Rector (Global Affairs) who warmly welcomed the group and delivered a general introduction on the development of UM.

The group visited several faculties and laboratories to learn about UM’s academic and research achievements, including Department of Portuguese of Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Science and Technology where they visited its Natural Language Processing and Portuguese-Chinese Machine Translation Laboratory, two State Key Laboratories (SKLs), namely SKL of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, and SKL of Quality Research of Chinese Medicine, and Centre of Continuing Education.

To learn more about UM’s student facilities and student affairs management, the programme also included visits to UM Library where they took a special visit to the Portuguese Corner, Moon Chun Memorial College to learn about UM’s residential college system, and Student Affairs Office to discuss management of student affairs and visit the facilities in the Student Activity Centre.

Lastly, regarding the administrative sector, the group had meetings with representatives from Global Affairs Office, Campus Management and Development Office, and Office of Administration. Representatives from both universities exchanged ideas and experience on university strategic development and management.
