The University of Macau (UM) today held a lecture titled ‘The Year 2020: Thoughts on Technological Innovation and Social Systems Engineering’, as part of the University Lecture Series in celebration of the 40th anniversary. The keynote speaker was Zhao Xinli, a second-class professional technician in the Ministry of Science and Technology, a fellow of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and a senior consultant to the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy at Tsinghua University.

During the talk, the speaker discussed technological innovation and social systems engineering from four perspectives, namely the COVID-19 pandemic, major changes in the new era, the Chinese dream of realising national rejuvenation, and how China can continue to write new chapters of its success story.

The Q&A session was moderated by Yang Zhixin, associate professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology and director of the Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office.
