During 26 July – 1 August 2021, UM Global Affairs Office organized a joint summer camp , namely, “Summer Camp for Outstanding Students in UM Strategic Partner Universities” and ” “Summer Camp for Outstanding Students of Universities in Greater Bay Area Alliances”, which attracted 69 Students from 29 institutions in Mainland China, including UM strategic partner institutions, member institutions from Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance as well as The Alliance for Technological Innovation and Talent Development in Western Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. During the activity, the students set foot on the UM campus, Macao local enterprises and organizations and various historical sites in Macao. Through a series of seminars, activities and visits, the students gained an insight into Macao’s historical, economic and social development, getting to know Macao SAR and UM from different perspectives.

UM Rector Prof. Yonghua Song remarked in the opening ceremony that UM holds a relatively important position and advantage in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). UM will continue to strengthen the cooperation and exchange with strategic partner institutions in Mainland China, take advantage of the opportunities presented in the development of the GBA,  proactively follow the policies enacted by Macao as well as the Central Government, nurture technological innovations and talent nurturing, in order to contribute to the development of Macao SAR, the Western GBA and the GBA as a whole, and turn UM into an outstanding university recognized by the local community and global academia.

In the 7-day activity, the students participated in 6 seminars encompassing Macao history and culture, law, economy, tourism, development of the gaming industry, opportunities in the GBA for young talents, and the economic and logistic development in the GBA. The students also took part in a Portuguese language workshop where they learnt how to introduced themselves in Portuguese and get to know the different cultures of Portuguese-speaking countries. Besides the seminars, the students also visited Galaxy Entertainment Group and participated in a series of interactive talks and visits to resort facilities in Galaxy Macau, learning about their business development and challenges, as well as their way of success. Last but not last, the students enjoyed wonderful times visiting Macao historical sites and tasting the renowned Portuguese egg tarts of Macao.
