Delegation from Brazil higher education institutions, led by Mr Geraldo Nunes Sobrinho, Director of Programmes and Scholarships of Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) under Ministry of Education of Brazil, visited the University of Macau (UM). Mr. Rafael Rodrigues Paulino, Consul from Consulate General of Brazil in Hong Kong and Macau, accompanied the delegation for the visit. The delegation was warmly received by UM Rector Yonghua Song, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Humanities Hong Gang Jin, Associate Dean of Faculty of Law Augusto Teixeira Garcia and Director of Global Affairs Office Cindy Lam. Both parties discussed opportunities for future partnerships and mobility programs for students and staffs.

During the visit, the delegation had a meeting with Rector and UM representatives from Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Law and Global Affairs Office. Rector Song introduced UM’s unique educational model, global engagement, as well as its future developments. Mr Geraldo Nunes Sobrinho praised UM for its academic and research achievement, adding that he looks forward to strengthening collaboration between UM and Brazil universities in mobility programs and exchange activities. Mr. Rafael Rodrigues Paulino believed that there will be more academic visits between Macau and Brazil and hope to establish a general collaboration framework between University of Macau and higher education institutions in Brazil. Prof Jin introduced the recent collaboration between Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Law on constructing a Portuguese academic database, and this could be the one of the potential collaboration with universities in Brazil. After the meeting, the delegation visited the University Gallery and the university library. The delegation highly praised the beautiful campus and the tranquil learning environment.

The delegation included Rectors, Vice-Rectors and representatives from Ministry of Education of Brazil, Universidade Federal de Roraima, Universidade do Estado do Amazonas, Universidade do Estado do Amazonas, Universidade Estadual Paulista, Universidade Federal do ABC, Universidade de Brasília, Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso and Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre.

CAPES is a Foundation within the Ministry of Education in Brazil whose central purpose is to coordinate efforts to improve the quality of Brazil’s faculty and staff in higher education through grant programs.
