A delegation led by António de Sousa Pereira, rector of the University of Porto, visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by UM Rector Yonghua Song and Vice Rectors Rui Martins and Xu Jian. The two parties exchanged views on establishing cooperation in science and technology, medicine, health, and innovation. They also further implemented the cooperation plans of the two universities in various areas such as research and teaching, reciprocal visits of students and faculty, and talent cultivation.
Song said that, in recent years, two universities continue to strengthen the cooperation, especially in scientific research and talent cultivation. UM and the University of Porto have launched dual doctoral degree programme to cultivate high-quality talents for the world. The strategic cooperation framework agreement between UM and the University of Porto, which was signed during the UM delegation’s visit to Portugal in May last year, was an important milestone in strengthening cooperation between the two universities. He added that the reciprocal visit by the University of Porto will promote the implementation of various cooperation between the two universities, facilitate academic exchanges, and help explore innovative cooperation models. Sousa Pereira said that UM is an important partner of the University of Porto, and expressed hope that the two universities will jointly promote reciprocal visits of students and faculty, cooperation in technology and innovation, and the sharing of scientific and educational resources.
The two parties also held a meeting, which was chaired by Martins and Xu. During the meeting, they engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanged experiences on strengthening cooperation in the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer. In addition, the delegation visited the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, and Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to gain a deeper understanding of UM’s research layout and teaching and research achievements. They also visited the University Gallery, UM Library, and Moon Chun Memorial College to learn about the university’s campus planning, academic resource management model, and residential college system.
