Rectors of Mozambique universities visit UM

Prof. Mário Brito dos Santos (Rector of Universidade Rovuma), Prof. Boaventura José Aleixo (Rector of Universidade Licungo) and Prof. Manuel José de Morais (Rector of Universidade Save) visited UM from 21 to 29 October 2019.  The three universities are newly established as a result of the restructure of the former Pedagogical University, Mozambique (Portuguese: Universidade Pedagógica).  During their stay in UM, meetings and visits to faculties and research facilities were arranged in order for the delegation to learn and experience the current academic development in UM.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Rector Prof. Yonghua Song, Vice Rector (Global Affairs) Prof. Rui Martins, Interim Director of Global Affairs Office Dr. Kevin Zhen and the Portuguese community in UM. Prof. Song delivered a general introduction of UM.  Prof. Martins shared UM’s latest developments and introduced the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI.

The delegation met with representatives from Department of Portuguese (Faculty of Arts and Humanities), Centre of Continuing Education, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Science and Technology.  In Chao Kuang Piu College, they met with students from Mozambique.  The delegation also visited the Natural Language Processing & Portuguese-Chinese Machine Translation Laboratory and the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City.

The delegation was very impressed with the UM campus, facility management, academic, and research achievements.  They are very keen on establishing official cooperation with UM, especially in student and staff exchange as well as academic collaborations.

This is the 2nd group from the former Pedagogical University, Mozambique visitng UM this year.  In June, a delegation composed of management members joined an intensive staff training programme in UM organised by GAO.
