The Faculty of Education aims to educate and prepare teachers at the pre-primary, primary and secondary levels who can meet the challenges in the 21st century. More specifically, the Faculty of Education aims to train future teachers who have: A solid foundation in education profession; A rich knowledge base in their respective content areas; Great enthusiasm for and dedication to education; A great interest in education research; and A good command of information technology in education.
Faculty of Health Sciences
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) strives to become a first-class centre for biomedical research and education with magnificent productivity and outstanding teaching quality. The research of FHS will focus on five major themes: (i) cancer, (ii) reproduction, development and aging, (iii) molecular medicine, (iv) neurodegenerative diseases, and (v) immunology and infectious diseases. With its mission of training the next generation of scientists and professionals for both Macao and the region, FHS has designed unique curricula at both graduate and undergraduate levels to facilitate the establishment of a regional education hub with international reputation in biomedical sciences.
Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law (FLL) is the oldest law school in Macao. The objective of the Bachelor Programme is to prepare jurists who are familiar with Macao S.A.R. legal system. FLL has played very important role in the localization of Macao law and jurists. The great majority of present bilingual judges, procurators, and jurists of the civil service of Macao S.A.R. are graduates from Faculty of Law of the University of Macau. The teaching of law at the Bachelor degree is basically within the Roman-German tradition, yet, the peculiar historical background makes Macao legal system, as well as the Macao society in general, quite open to the world and to the global trends.
Faculty of Social Sciences
The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) tries to create mutual understanding, enhance teaching quality, pursue academic excellence, strengthen community service, and thus become a leading centre with distinct features for nurturing high-calibre personnel and for academic research in social sciences. At FSS, we teach the core knowledge and values for effective and responsible citizenship today. With the full support of both the local authorities and the motherland, we are committed to serving Macao whole-heartedly while opening up to the whole world.
Faculty of Science and Technology
The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) is the most comprehensive engineering school in Macao with the strong support of a high-caliber Mathematics Department. With an excellent team of academic members from world renowned universities (e.g., Cambridge, UC Berkeley, Harvard, Oxford, Caltech, …), our faculty not only fulfills the important mission for local needs but also provides top-edge research outputs. Our educational goal not only matches the local needs through our comprehensive Training and Placement Network but also equips our graduates with international standard through academic exchange programs and international research collaborations.
Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering
Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME) offers a well-balanced fundamental and applied research, which is a unique entity in bridging the gap between pure science and engineering. This interdisciplinary institute will combine the diverse research strengths and expertise at the University of Macau to develop real-world solutions to future technological challenges. At its current stage, the core research areas are identified, i.e., Solar Energy and Photo-electric Converting, Image Scattering Physics (New Materials, Biophysics, Quantum Information), Battery / Super Capacity Energy Storage, Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell, Materials Simulation, and Wind Energy, Light-weight Cement and Cement Gel.
Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences
The Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) was established as the first research-oriented institute in Macao in 2002. Over the past 12 years, ICMS has devoted itself to promoting the research of Chinese medicine and nurturing of local talents in the interdisciplinary fields of biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. Since December 2010, ICMS has prided itself in hosting the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (SKL-QRCM, University of Macau)– the first ever State Key Laboratory in the broad fields of Chinese medicine, and has gained rapid growth and increasing impact, both nationally and globally. In 2013, the Expert Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology highly appraised the achievements of the SKL which successfully passed the mid-stage assessment. And in 2014, together with the University of Macau community, ICMS celebrated the relocation to the new Hengqin campus, which has started to provide world-class facilities for the future development of ICMS/SKL.
