On 26 October, Global Affairs Office (GAO) held the AY2022/2023 Orientation to welcome the international students at UM. Over 80 students from 25 countries participated in the event where they obtained useful information of UM and got to know each other.
Prof. Rui Martins, Vice Rector of Global Affairs, kicked off the orientation with a welcoming remark. Prof. Martins officially welcomed the international students who have returned to UM campus for the new academic year. He stated that the Welcome Orientation is the first on-campus event for the international students since the outbreak of COVID-19. It has been a difficult time in the past two academic years, particularly for the international students who were not able to return to Macao and had to study online. He highly praised the resilience and commitment of the international students. He hoped the students enjoy the programmes and facilities on campus and feel the atmosphere of the University as well as experiencing the diverse life in Macao.
Prof. Ruibing Wang, Director of Global Affairs Office, followed up with an introduction of UM and the various global programmes and opportunities available for international students, as well as the scope of responsibilities of GAO for the students. He also encouraged the students to actively participate in UM activities and exchange programmes.
The orientation was also joined by the representatives from UM Library and the Student Affairs Office (SAO). Assistant Librarian Mr. Billy Leung from the Library and Dr. Mia Wong from SAO introduced the library resources and Psychological Counselling services, respectively. The International Students Association (UMSU-ISA) also took the opportunity to introduce their organization to the students. The event was also joined and supported by Prof. Rose Lai, Dean of Honors College, Prof. Pak Kin Wong, Interim Dean of Graduate School, Mr. Paul Pang, Dean of Students, and Ms. Cindy Lam, Director of Alumni and Development Office (ADO).
