On 8 September, Global Affairs Office (GAO) organised the 2021/2022 Online Orientation to e-welcome the new batch of international students to UM. Over 30 students from 15 different countries registered for the event where they obtained useful information and got to know each other.
Prof. Rui Martins, Vice Rector of Global Affairs, kicked off the orientation with a welcoming remark. Prof. Martins stated that although many newly admitted international students are not able to come to UM in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UM will continue to provide online teaching and associated support to the international students and hope that they will be able to come and study on the UM campus soon.
Prof. Ruibing Wang, Interim Director of Global Affairs Office, followed up with an introduction of UM, as well as the scope of responsibilities of GAO for the students.
The orientation was also joined by the representatives from UM Library and the Information and Communication Office (ICTO). The representatives introduced the online learning resources as well as IT services and remote support, which are particularly important to international students who are currently studying online. UM International Students Association (UMSU-ISA) also took the opportunity to introduce their association to the students.
Lastly, there was a Q & A session for GAO to answer students’ questions and addressed their concerns. The students enjoyed the event and were eager to come to UM and meet everyone face-to-face.
